Game of Thrones wines from Vintage Wine Estates coming out this month

Have you ever wondered what wine pairs best with the blowing up of the Great Sept of Baelor and the complete annihilation of one’s enemies? Well, HBO and Vintage Wine Estates are helping you to answer that and other questions with a new line of Game of Thrones-themed wines, out this month. There are three varieties soon to be on offer: a Chardonnay, a proprietary red blend, and a reserve-style Cabernet Sauvignon.

According to Vintage Wine Estates, both the red blend and Cabernet Sauvignon were crafted from specially selected vineyards and then “aged in the finest oak barrels.” The wines were conceived by Bob Cabral, who was named Winemaker of the Year in 2011 by Wine Enthusiast. Naturally, he’s into the show.

"I’m a huge Game of Thrones fan, and these wines capture the complexity of the drama. But the wines also have great pedigree. We source grapes from premier vineyard sites and use the finest winemaking techniques to create wines of incredible richness and texture."

Each of the three Game of Thrones wines represents a different great House of Westeros:

  • Golden Chardonnay — House Lannister, represented by a Golden Lion ($19.99).
  • Red Blend — House Targaryen, represented by the Three-Headed Dragon ($19.99).
  • Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon — House Stark, represented by the Direwolf ($49.99).

Both the House Lannister Chardonnay and House Targaryen red blend were released on Monday, March 13, while the House Stark Cabernet Sauvignon will be available on March 20. If you enjoy your fine wines like Queen Cersei does, they’re available at GameofThronesWines.com. All three will be available in stores starting in April.
