Neil Gaiman’s ‘American Gods’ Trailer Debuts And It’s Really Badass

Neil Gaiman’s American Gods trailer is here, and we’re still sitting over here with our mouths open and our minds blown. It’s really that good.

The American God’s trailer is here and it’s an incredible spectacle of fantasy and gothic imagery. Based on the novel by Neil Gaiman, the new show debuts on the Starz network next month, and it’s already getting a lot of really great buzz.

The series tells the story of recently released convict, Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle), who is hired by the mysterious Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane) as a fixer, bodyguard, and traveling companion. Little does Shadow know, but Wednesday is an old-deity, looking to build an Army in his travels and reclaim his power.

The show not only looks gorgeous, but it’s a trippy, bloody, allegory of spirituality and contemporary values. The show features gods and deities spanning time and culture. Esquire describes is as, ” It’s dense with symbolism and complex mythological references and critiques on modern society hidden as an Americana adventure/epic fantasy war.”

The show is executive produced by Doctor Who alum, Neil Gaiman. The series was adapted from Gaiman’s 2001 novel, with Hannibal’s Bryan Fuller and Michael Green also at the helm.

It’s chocked full of some of our favorite stars. Aside from McShane as Wednesday, we also get a look at Bruce Langley as Technical Boy, Kristin Chenoweth as Easter, Yetide Badaki as Bilquis, Crispin Glover as Mr. World.

It’s a surreal, rich look at a war brewing between the Old Gods and New. The fading Old Gods struggle to remain as their followers are being lured by the seductive influences of wealth, technology, and fame present in the New Gods.
