Can an American Play the Doctor on Doctor Who?

When it comes to Doctor Who, you have to have an amazing actor playing the Doctor. But can an American take on the role of a lifetime?

The Doctor can make or break a season of Doctor Who. If the actor isn’t great, the show fails. It’s that simple. He is the main character and who we’re all rooting for in the end. So if an actor cannot properly portray the Time Lord, what’s the point of having the show on anyway?

So now that Peter Capaldi is departing and we’re looking at lucky number thirteen, the question remains: Who will take over playing the Doctor? For many, the idea of an American actor taking on the role is out of the question. Remember when they wanted to make a Doctor Who movie starring Johnny Depp and everyone flipped out?

But maybe we’re judging everything a little too harshly. If you get the right actor, it could really work with an American at the helm. And it could bring in a new audience in the United States that didn’t exist beforehand.

So now the new question is who would be a great choice for an American playing the Doctor? For me, I can’t really say because I’m partial to my favorite actors taking on the role but still, it could be a very real possibility.
