‘Hey, they were in Game of Thrones’—Where else have you seen these 50 GoT cast members?
10) BIRGITTE HJORT SORENSEN
The character of Karsi didn’t last long on Game of Thrones, but everybody fell in love with Birgitte Hjort Sorensen’s empathetic portrayal of the tough wildling spearwife/mother who could not bring herself to kill children, even undead ones. (By the way, the Danish actress’ first name is pronounced “Beer-gui-deh.”) Karsi appeared in only one episode, season 5’s “Hardhome,” but it was a big one. When interviewed by the New York Times ArtsBeat in 2015, she talked about how director Miguel Sapochnik kept the actors focused amidst the sprawling action scenes:
"It was easy to lose yourself in the fantasy world because the sets are so incredibly life-like. And during all this fighting, Miguel Sapochnik, our director, was so good at keeping us on the acting track. It was about protecting the family. It was never just about killing off some guys."
North American audiences may well recognize Sorensen from her roles as Ingrid on the HBO series Vinyl (2016) and as the a cappella machine Kommissar in Pitch Perfect 2, but she has also starred in a number of European features, including Automata (2014) and Someone You Love (2014).
In the Danish TV series Borgen (2010-2013), Sorensen plays Katrine Fonsmark, media advisor/spin doctor to a Danish Prime Minister (Sidse Babett Knudsen, of Westworld fame) becoming corrupted by her rise to power. Borgen also stars Pilou Asbaeck, who portrays the maniacal Euron Greyjoy on Thrones.
Sorensen also shines in the title role of Marie Kroyer (2012), a Danish costume-drama chronicling the stormy personal lives of famous painters Marie and P.S. Krøyer.
Sorensen’s latest project is the upcoming 2017 drama-thriller 3 Things, co-starring fellow Game of Thrones actor Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister.) Note: Sorensen and Coster-Waldau, both Danish-born, have starred together previously in the Dutch action adventure At World’s End (2009).
