44) JEROME FLYNN
Jerome Flynn brings a treasureload of swagger and dash to Bronn, a highly skilled sellsword who works for the Lannisters. But when he first joined Game of Thrones, he wasn’t sure he had made a good move, career-wise, as he told The Hollywood Reporter in 2016:
"I was a bit worried because I don’t think I was allowed to see the script … Then I was worried that it might be a substandard, you know, rather cringe-y medieval thing with worrying costumes and dodgy accents. And of course, that wasn’t the case. It’s a job of a lifetime for any actor. I feel very lucky to still be there and still be alive, quite frankly."
Bronn is familiar to fans from his TV roles as Eddie Hargreaves on Between the Lines (1992), Tom McCabe on Badger (1999-2000) and as Bennet Drake on the popular BBC America series Ripper Street (above, 2012-2016).
When Flynn got the parts of Bronn and Drake, he was attempting to resurrect his acting career after a hugely successful run as Paddy Garvey in the TV series Soldier, Soldier (above, with Robson Green) from 1991-1995. Thrones castmates Lena Headey, James Cosmo and Dominic Carter (Janos Slynt) had parts on Soldier, Soldier as well.
And of course, there was the period where Flynn performed with Green as part of a singing duo called Robson & Jerome. Prepare for surrealism.
Career restart status: successful. Along with Thrones, Flynn can be seen as Dr. Gachet in Loving Vincent in 2017.
