‘Hey, they were in Game of Thrones’—Where else have you seen these 50 GoT cast members?
7) IAIN GLEN
On Game of Thrones, Iain Glen plays Jorah Mormont, a handsome soldier handicapped by poor decision-making and unrequited love.
Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Glen gets around Hollywood. He’s appeared as Manfred Powell in Tomb Raider, Dr. Isaacs in the Resident Evil series, and Alfred Roberts in The Iron Lady. He’s also a stage actor with turns in plays like Macbeth (Tron Theater) and Henry the V (Royal Shakespeare Company).
Glen has a long TV resume with starring roles in many top-flight series and miniseries. He has portrayed Jarrod Slade in Cleverman (2016), Jacob in The Red Tent (2014), Sir Richard Carlisle in Downton Abbey (2011), and Octavian in Dr. Who (2010). Glen also played Madoc Faulkner in one episode of Ripper Street alongside Game of Thrones costar Jerome Flynn (Bronn) in 2013. Glen and Flynn know each other from way back, as Glen revealed when asked which Game of Thrones character he’d like to face in a fighting pit:
"As Jorah… it sounds cowardly, but I’d like to face Littlefinger. I’d like to know the reality of what he spreads and some of the consequences of the balls he sets rolling. As Iain… Jerome Flynn (Bronn). I’ve known him from when we were in opposing drama schools in London. We used to play football together and try to cripple each other on the field. He might be better than me at football, but in armed combat, I’d whip his ass."
In one of those ‘Hey, don’t blink or you might miss him,’ moments, Glen shows up at the very end of Ridley Scott’s 12th Century crusade epic Kingdom of Heaven, once again donning plate armor for his cameo as Richard Couer de Lion (2005). Two of his costars on Game of Thrones, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister) and Alexander Siddig (Prince Doran Martell), have parts in the film as well.
What’s up next for the prolific Glen? He stars in the new TV drama-comedy Delicious (2016-17), and has two films slated for release in 2017: My Cousin Rachel and What About Love.
