Screencap breakdown: The Game of Thrones season 7 promo trailer
By Dan Selcke
In the next shot, Jon continues walking down the corridors of Winterfell. I think it’s interesting that the camera pans over to him first, like it’s catching up to him. That continues the “spying on Jon” motif that began with the shot through the doorway. I don’t know if it’s purposeful, but the Jon sections strike me as more unsettling than the others.
Then we get our first closeup:
Bam! Jon Snow, big as life. He’s glowering. Feign surprise and awe. Also, the lyrics that play over his appearance are pretty appropriate: “Those who feel the breath of sadness…” Yep.
Next: a shot from behind Daenerys, who is wearing a SERIOUS wig.
And we step to the front and get a closer look at what Dany is wearing, which involves a red sash draped over one shoulder.
It’s a new look we saw her sport during filming in Zumaia this year.
It covers more of her body than the gowns she wore in Meereen. Maybe she’s trying to project more authority, or maybe it’s just colder in Westeros than she’s used to. Winter is coming, after all.
Next, We get the front-back thing with Cersei. The paralleling of these three characters continues.
Her hair’s still short, but she’s added some elaborate accessories to her neck and shoulders. That metal collar is crazy, and I love how it contrasts with the simple cut and solid color of the rest of the dress. Designer Michele Clapton is already killing it.
Again, the lyrics that play over the shots of Cersei are extremely appropriate: “Those who find they’re touched by madness…” Uh-huh.
From where I’m sitting, Cersei looks the most composed of these three characters, like she’s finally living the life she was always supposed to. Of course she’s the queen — I bet she wonders how she ever stood life before this.
Ah, but where are these three going? Clearly they’re on their way somewhere.
Jon Snow is the first to arrive…
