Game of Thrones meets March Madness: We have crowned a champion

It was a dramatic journey lasting some three weeks, but we have finally crowned a champion in our March Madness tournament: Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish.

He seems pleased about it.

Baelish survived a field that included 32 of your favorite Game of Thrones characters, winning match after match. His last battle was against Tyrion Lannister. Let’s look at the results:

Tyrion Lannister vs. Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish

Going into this, I think a lot of readers considered Tyrion a favorite, but Baelish proved more popular than initially thought — he managed to secure nearly double the number of votes Tyrion did.

In fact, Baelish was never in huge danger at any point in the tournament, even as he went up against popular characters like Margaery Tyrell, Sandor Clegane, Daenerys Targaryen and Oberyn Martell. His fans were vocal in support of their pic, especially in the final three rounds of our tournament. Congrats on getting your man to the finish line! All hail Petyr Baelish, Littlefinger, the Lord of Harrenhal and the Lord Protector of the Vale, the King of the Ashes and the Ruler of March Madness.

Regardless of the outcome, we hope that everyone enjoyed the tournament, and thank you all for your votes and comments! We had fun putting it together. Next year’s edition will include 64 characters and will run even longer. And while you wait eagerly for that, you’ll always have Game of Thrones season 7 to tide you over.
