Remember that time HBO revealed the premiere date for Game of Thrones season 7 by encasing a plaque in a huge block of ice and making fans watch it slowly melt on Facebook Live for an hour and a half? We do. We couldn’t forget if we tried.
It looks like Hollywood won’t be forgetting anytime soon, either. In fact, TBS sitcom Angie Tribeca aped the stunt earlier today by encasing its star, Rashida Jones, in a block of ice while her costars tried to get her out with lights, hairdryers, and general encouragement. From the show’s Facebook page:
"It’s happening LIVE: Angie’s big announcement. Now if only we could get her out of this giant block of ice to actually announce it…"
Now, as the second show to pull this stunt, Angie Tribeca has improved over HBO’s version in some key ways. First of all, at 35 minutes and change, the video ended up being way shorter than HBO’s live event. Second, Angie actually has cast members from the show come on the set and do stuff, up to and including pelting the ice block with bullets. In a nod to the source, Septa Unella even comes in at 27:18 to ring the shame bell at a dog that pees on the ice.
Incidentally, Angie Tribeca premieres tonight at 9:30 CST on TBS. Game of Thrones season 7 premieres on July 16 on HBO, but if you watched their block of ice melt for an hour and a half, you already knew that.
