Pearl Mackie has her sights set on playing James Bond when Doctor Who is over. And why not? Anything is possible these days.
We’re only a few days away from the season 10 premiere of Doctor Who, but that’s not stopping Pearl Mackie from looking to the future. She told RadioTimes that she’d like to play James Bond. And no, not Jane Bond.
During an interview with RadioTimes and other journalists, Mackie’s exuberance for her work bubbled over. She told the press, “I don’t know…I think that some of the best things that are out there haven’t been written yet. So I wouldn’t like to say anything too defining.” Mackie added, “There’s so many wonderful people out there that I’d like to play, and so many characters that don’t exist yet that I’d like to play.”
The Doctor Who official Instagram posted this short video featuring Mackie talking about her character. You can see her passion for new projects as talks about playing Bill.
When asked about whether or not she’d like to play “Jane Bond,” she replied with the same passion and enthusiasm. She said, “Nah nah, James. If I can be called Bill, I can be called James!”
There are rumors swirling that season 10 might be Mackie’s first and last season with Doctor Who, so speculation about what she’ll do next is natural. She seems to be in on the talk, telling journalists, “For me it’s just about playing characters with depth that have interesting stories to tell, that maybe approach things in a way that you haven’t seen before.”

For an actress that was virtually unknown a year ago, Mackie has already made her mark. Her time with Doctor Who will only make her star shine brighter, so it’s not a crazy leap to think she could play the next James Bond.
Of course, she’ll have to beat out some big names. If she can get ahead of Idris Elba, Tom Hiddleston or Ryan Reynolds then we know she’s made it.
