3) ROBERT BARATHEON

Former ruler of the Seven Kingdoms, Robert had been insanely impressive in his youth. His killing of the mighty Rhaegar Targaryen at the Battle of the Trident — with a single warhammer blow — is one of the most stunning exploits in all of Westerosi lore. Despite his battlefield prowess, Robert proved a far less capable king, eating and drinking to excess and finally succumbing to the treachery of his conniving queen, Cersei Lannister.

2) BARRISTAN SELMY

Barristan Selmy “The Bold,” is a knight who served the Kingsguard for more than forty years and many believe him to be the finest swordsman in all of the Seven Kingdoms. Even though Selmy was absolutely loyal to Rheagar Targaryen right up until the end of Robert’s Rebellion, his reputation of courage and chivalry so impressed Robert that he both pardoned Selmy and made him Lord Commander of the Kingsguard. His death at the hands of the Sons of the Harpy in a Meereen back alley was not a worthy final act for this guy

1. SER ARTHUR DAYNE

Appearing in the 6th season Tower of Joy flashback in “Oathbreaker,” the Dornish knight Ser Arthur Dayne proved to all of us how fantastic a fighter he was, overwhelming Eddard Stark and his bannermen before being stabbed in the back by Howland Reed. Dayne’s title was “The Sword of the Morning,” and he carried the famous ancestral House Dayne blade, Dawn. “Father said he (Arthur Dayne) was the best swordsman he ever saw,” Bran tells the Three-eyed Raven. I’m going to agree with Eddard Stark on this one.
