Another name has popped up from the abyss for the Doctor. What do you think of this possible 13th Doctor?

According to The Sun, Olympic legend Sir Steve Redgrave is lined up to be a possible 13th Doctor.

Who Is He?

Steve Redgrave is one of Britain’s most decorated Olympians. He is currently a retired rowing champion, with five Olympic gold medals, three Commonwealth gold medals and nine World Rowing Championship gold medals.

Redgrave is 55 years old, the same age as Capaldi, which is an interesting choice for the BBC to consider, as they have reported saying they wanted someone more like David Tennant.

According to The Sun, he has been asked to have a role in an episode for years, but always said no.

In an exclusive interview with The Sun, Redgrave admitted that “I have been offered a few times before to do a walk-on part for Doctor Who. I couldn’t make it happen on those occasions, but I am ready to do it now.”

So what does this mean?

Perhaps Kris Marshall isn’t as much of a shoo-in as people thought. Names are being thrown around because no one knows who exactly BBC’s looking for. He would have been around Chris Eccleston’s stage, which is a good age. I never quite believed it would be him, though. Maybe it was because he was a ginger, and I’m not quite ready for that internal fight to be over.

Honestly, there are too many rumors going around to ever figure it out. And with a new producer and writer, we could have no idea what we’re going to see. We could be using Moffat rules, while Chibnall might want someone else.

Does this mean Steve Redgrave is any more likely? Possibly. I personally would like to see an older doctor given another shot, just maybe one who is not as…Scottish (or “cross” as the Doctor puts it) as twelve. I like the idea of going back to OldWho ages. It doesn’t always have to be someone you watch cause you have a crush on.

So right now the contenders are:

  • Kris Marshall from Love Actually
  • Sir Steve Redgrave, retired Olympian.

What do you think, is this a legitimate name to throw into the maybe pile, or no?
