Daenerys and company settle at Dragonstone

We can’t go any farther without introducing our second major faction of the season: Team Targaryen. Last we saw them, they were sailing for Westeros with a giant fleet. We’re not sure what, if anything, happens on the way, but very early in the season, they reach Dragonstone, where Daenerys sets up a new home base. You got a look at her new throne in the first season 7 promo trailer.

If you’ll recall, Dragonstone was where Stannis hung out in seasons 2-4. It’s also the ancient seat of House Targaryen and the place where Daenerys was born, so it carries a lot of meaning for her.

The production filmed Dragonstone scenes at a couple places in the Basque region of Spain, including the islet of Gaztelugatxe, Itzurun Beach, and Muriola Beach. The crew filmed in open spaces, so we have plenty of shots of Daenerys, Tyrion, Missandei, Grey Worm, Varys and the Dothraki making themselves at home.

As you can see more clearly in HBO promos, the prevailing color scheme for members of Daenerys’ entourage is now black. That’s sure to strike fear in the hearts of Dany’s enemies. The Dothraki escort can’t hurt, either.

We expect Daenerys to set up shop at Dragonstone in the season premiere, and then to send out ravens demanding the lords of Westeros come and swear her fealty. As you’ll see, Dragonstone hosts many interesting guests over the course of the season.
