There are many rumors flying about who or what could be in the Vault that the Doctor is supposed to be guarding. Take a look at our three guesses!

Besides the hype of the regeneration and who’s going to be the new Doctor, what’s taking up a lot of viewers’ attention is what’s in the vault Nardole is making the Twelve protect. We got a brief look at the knocking that comes from within the vault, only I only heard three knocks, never four.
Though it could be just the fact that there’s knocking in the first place that’s the big clue.
Many people are fixated on the idea that it has to be one of the Masters in the vault. It’s an okay idea, it’s probably a smart idea. But what if it was someone completely different?

Is it Missy?
I don’t think so. The last time we saw Missy, she just sort of…disappeared. She could be anywhere in time and space. I doubt she’d be able to contain herself being stuck in a vault that brings back memories of the Pandorica.
If she’s inside, I feel like by the time we open the vault, she would be sitting in the corner repeating ‘RedRum…RedRum…” No, I don’t think even a heavy vault guarded by the Doctor 24/7 (as it were), could keep Missy inside. She’s too savvy and too smart to have herself contained for so long.
Is it The Master/John Simm?
This, I feel, is more likely. Because John Simm’s Master continued to die and come back, I’m getting visions of Voldemort in the fourth book when he was just a head and a spine. Meaning, John Simm could actually be not a full Time Lord, but a small fragment of what he used to be.
The knocking and the possible drums that have been heard by various viewers definitely suggest the fact that it is John Simm’s master. But how will the effects of dying, without regeneration, have on his body? I can’t imagine that he’s going to come out as though nothing happened in series four.
But that just seems too obvious. Knocking, drums, come on, it’s Moffat. Is he really going to be that obvious?

Is it…The Thirteenth Doctor?
This is an interesting idea that came to me as I’ve been reading articles about the regeneration of twelve. It appears that Twelve’s death scene has already been filmed, yet Capaldi is set to be in the Christmas episode of Doctor Who.
It’s also been said multiple times that this regeneration won’t be as straightforward as previous regenerations.
According to ScreenRant, Capaldi has already revealed that the twelfth Doctor’s regeneration will not be as straightforward as the previous regenerations, meaning there could be a lot more going on in the Christmas special.
It might be that the Doctor has already regenerated, and somehow has forgotten, and so the thirteenth doctor has been put in a vault so to not mess up the timeline.
Going by the fact that the vault is like an even bigger Pandorica, and the fact that it’s been said that the thirteenth Doctor has possibly already been in a scene before the actual regeneration and that it would be something never been done before in Who History before Moffat leaves, I’m saying, I don’t think it’s far off.
The Pandorica was for the Doctor because he was dangerous to the evil aliens. Maybe the Doctor is in the vault because it’s too dangerous for him to come out before twelve is ready. It certainly would be the most surprising idea.
