Nikolaj Coster-Waldau: Jaime Lannister is “committed to his sister”

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who has been giving a lot of interviews lately, sounded off again to Mashable. It asked him whether Brienne — the only other woman besides Cersei to whom Jaime seems close — could ever come between Jaime and Cersei. “There’s no question there’s a lot of emotion between [Jaime and Brienne],” he said. “They have a shared history.” Don’t hold out hope for Brienne to break up the incest-fest, though.

"I think [Jaime’s] committed to his sister…I mean clearly [he and Brienne] have emotional responses when they’re together — but they would never, I don’t think he allows that to get into his mind or to act on it at all."

So congratulations, Cersei-and-Jaime shippers (there have gotta be a few): it looks like Jaime and Cersei’s relationship is secure, although it’s not without its problems. While their connection goes deep, Coster-Waldau also suggested that Jaime is devoted to Cersei because he doesn’t know any other way:

"This has been going since they were 15/16 and it’s been all about — his life has been about serving her needs…I think that kind of programming is not — I mean I think when he spent that year with Brienne on the road…that was the first time ever he had forcefully been away from his sister for that long a stretch of time. But yeah, he is very much — he clearly doesn’t seem to be able to let go of that. I think he loves his sister."

Aw. Or gross.

And if someone did manage to come between Jaime and Cersei? “Hypothetically,” Coster-Waldau said, “you would think [Jaime would be upset.]”

Anyway, this all sounds good for drama. Fans may want Jaime and Brienne to get together, but there’re probably be more fireworks if he sticks with Cersei.
