Game of Thrones season 6 was perhaps the biggest yet for Sophie Turner, as Sansa Stark became a driving force behind the effort to retake Winterfell from the Boltons. With the show’s success, Turner’s opportunities in Hollywood have multiplied. But when InStyle asked her to spill secrets about season 7, she revealed that her love of the show has not waned:
"I have to be careful because I’m such a blabbermouth. I’m so passionate about the show, and it has been my life for so long that it’s become real to me. So whenever people ask me about it, I want to tell them everything!"
Don’t let us stop you.
In addition to playing omni-powerful mutant Jean Grey in the X-Men series, Turner has also taken on smaller roles, such as troubled teenager Josie in the indie film Huntsville, which is due out this year. She bleached her hair blonde for the 2016 shoot, among making other changes.
"I got to cover myself in tattoos, and I had an Alabama accent—it was such a change… It killed my hair. I would never normally do it. I loved having that red hair and feel like it’s part of me now."
Her natural hair color is blonde, by the way, but maybe not Huntsville blonde. In any case, that explains why she’s wearing a red wig for season 7. “I used to think blondes [have more fun],” she joked. “But now I think that reds have more fun.”
But despite Turner’s success, growing up in the public eye hasn’t always been easy, and Turner admitted that she may have given up on acting if not for her onscreen sister and offscreen best friend Maisie Williams (Arya Stark).
"This has been amazing and hard. To have someone who understands what you’re going through, who’s the same age, who came from pretty much the same background—that is so rare. And we’ve had the same struggles in terms of dealing with body image and puberty and growing up in the public eye. But I found my strength in her, and I think she found her strength in me."
She’s also found help from boyfriend Joe Jonas, with whom she’s been in a fairly high-profile relationship with for a while. Although Turner likes to “keep things pretty private” between them, there’s only so much you can do when you’re a celebrity, which is the point:
"I found it easier to date someone who understands the industry or is in that world. You realize that you’re not going to see each other all the time. And you don’t feel like a jerk when you’re like, ‘My publicist says I can’t do this…"
If only the rest of us could use that excuse in real life…”Sorry honey, my publicist says I can’t take out the trash today.”
Game of Thrones season 7 debuts on July 16th.
