Nikolaj Coster-Waldau in talks for Brian de Palma film, Iwan Rheon takes on supervillain role
By Dan Selcke
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister) is currently in talks to star in upcoming thriller Domino, alongside Mad Men star Christina Hendricks. The movie centres on Coster-Waldau’s character, a police officer in Copenhagen who teams up with his late partner’s mistress (Hendricks) to exact revenge against his partner’s killer, the mysterious Imran. Unfortunately for the duo, they are “unwittingly caught in a cat-and-mouse chase with a duplicitous CIA agent that will take them from Scandinavia to the sun-drenched landscapes of Spain.”
From Scandinavia to Spain? That sounds like a typical travel itinerary for a Game of Thrones cast member. Coster-Waldau is Danish born and studied performance in the Danish National School of Theatre and Contemporary Dance in Copenhagen, so it sounds like he’ll get to spend some time at home while he films — a nice change for a man who is fast becoming a bankable Hollywood star.
The film was written by Norwegian screenwriter Petter Skavlan and directed by Brian de Palma, who has helmed such iconic movies as Carrie and Scarface. Watch this space.
From one of House Stark’s enemies to another, here’s your first look at Iwan Rheon (Ramsay Bolton) in the upcoming Marvel Studios show Inhumans. Check out some of those costumes. The purple dress and orange wig ensemble is certainly interesting.
Rheon will be stepping into another villainous role, this time of Maximus the Mad, a man with a “genius-level intellect and the ability to exchange his consciousness with another.” Though Maximus appears benevolent on the surface, he secretly schemes to overtake his brother: Black Bolt, played by Anson Mount.
If you’re worried that the talented Rheon may be getting pigeonholed as a villain, Inhumans showrunner Scott Buck is here to reassure you:
"We didn’t want to create just a simple villain who’s evil for the sake of being evil. He’s a very real, three-dimensional character. Iwan is more than capable. Every time we watch dailies of him, we’re just more and more excited about what he’s bringing to the screen."
Inhumans will air on ABC this September, with the first two episodes premiering in IMAX for a two-week period. Hopefully, Rheon can make a successful transition from one fandom to another.
Moving on to another comic book franchise, Dark Horse’s Hellboy is set to make a return to the big screen — its third outing at the movies — but this time without director Guillermo del Toro, or its original star, Ron Perlman.
Instead, Neil Marshall is slated to direct. Marshall is known to Thrones die-hards as the director of two of its biggest episodes: season 2’s “Blackwater” and season 4’s “The Watchers on the Wall.” Both episodes were big-budget highlights, and proved that Marshall knew how to shoot exciting action sequences. He seems like an a solid choice to bring the demonic hero to life once more.
Here’s a shot of Neil Marshall sitting the iron throne and looking mighty comfortable. If Hellboy doesn’t work out, he may have a second career as Cersei Lannister’s successor.
