Game of Thrones season 7: Easter eggs and spoilers in HBO’s ‘A Story in Cloth’ video

The other day, HBO released a video exploring how Game of Thrones costume designer Michele Clapton goes about creating the outfits on the show. If you haven’t seen it, it’s well worth a watch:

The video also contains behind-the-scenes footage from Game of Thrones season 7. Naturally, members of the ever-diligent Game of Thrones fandom have take a close look and pointed out details that hint at where things are going over the course of the next seven episodes. Let’s see what we can find.

WARNING: SEASON 7 SPOILERS BELOW

First, up, Insider looked closely at a shot where Lena Headey (Cersei Lannister) and Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson (the Mountain) are standing around in a room between takes. (Around 2:55.) It noticed a third person standing alongside them: Indira Varma, aka Ellaria Sand. What’s more, she’s in manacles.

So it looks like the Lannisters will capture Ellaria during season 7. This lines up perfectly with other behind-the-scenes shots from month ago. Those images showed Euron Greyjoy (Pilou Asbæk) marching Ellaria Sand through the streets of King’s Landing, alongside her daughter Tyene Sand (Rosabell Laurenti Sellers).

Putting all this together, it looks like Euron defeats the Dornish in battle and brings the leaders to King’s Landing to give to Cersei. Should be interesting.

Next, Redditor Lady_Ashara_Dayne honed in on a shot of the crew hard at work constructing costumes behind the scenes, around 3:01:

You’ll notice that there’s some concept art on the wall, behind the one dude’s head. And it looks as though it depicts a giant:

"from a story in cloth: macomber confirmed from freefolk"

Conclusion: There could well be a giant (or giants) in Game of Thrones season 7. The last one we saw was good, sweet Wun Wun, who crashed through the gates of Winterfell only to get an arrow right in the eye socket courtesy of Ramsay Bolton. Does he have an angry relative north of the Wall eager for vengeance? Or, more terrifyingly, might the White Walkers have killed a few giants and brought them back as wights. There’s a thought that will keep Jon Snow up at night.

A Redditor named /u/N355UN0 spotted something interesting around 2:54, where we see Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) in the Winterfell crypts.

Zoom in on the crew member behind Turner and you’ll notice that she’s carrying a sword.

And it may not be just any sword. Does the hilt look familiar? It appears to be Needle, Arya Stark’s weapon of choice since season 1.

And where Needle goes, Arya goes too. This is yet more evidence that Arya will very likely turn north from the Twins and return to Winterfell at some point in the season. We’ll get a better idea of how it all plays out when season 7 premieres on July 16.
