LONDON, ENGLAND – JANUARY 12: Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss during Q
Well, at least we know what Moffat will be doing without the Doctor on his hands. It looks like he’ll be trading in a sonic screwdriver for…blood?
According to Variety, Gatiss, Moffat, and Sue Vertue will come back together to produce a show about the classic story of Dracula. While many things aren’t clear about the show yet, we do know a few things. We know that the show will be like Sherlock, in that it will feature feature-length episodes as a mini-series.
As for casting, that seems to be a long way off. We also don’t know if Dracula will adopt the same setting as Sherlock in modern times. It could have the same idea of Stoker’s 1897 novel where Dracula moves to England to find new blood. That could certainly at least give the two some lee-way as to filming.
Though the show has been announced, it seems like it will be a while before the show comes to the small screen. Both Moffat and Gatiss have their own projects going on as of right now. As of right now, scripts aren’t even written.
Moffat is currently still in the process of wrapping up Doctor Who, and Mark Gatiss has been spending time on stage and as a screenwriter. While he starred in Sherlock as Mycroft, could he possibly have a part in Dracula? Who knows.
It’s fun to dream about what these two could do with a classic tale of Dracula. Sherlock propelled Benedict Cumberbatch into stardom, as well as co-star Martin Freeman. Are they ready to do the same to two more actors, or are we going to have actors that are already relatively famous?
This isn’t the first time an attempt to re-create Dracula has happened. NBC tried in 2013 with the makers of Downton Abbey, but the show only ran for one season.
