Confusing Storylines: Missy excecution

While this isn’t a forgotten storyline yet, it is something that needs clarifying. Why was Missy being executed? Was it for being evil? It never seemed to bother the Time Academy before. The Master has been around for thousands of years.

Or was it something else? The newest issue of Doctor Who Magazine opened up a new way of looking at the execution. Was it an execution for crimes committed? Or was it an execution because it was simply time for the Master to die?

Doctor Who Magazine

So now we know there were lines cut in Extremis that things clearer. It shows that perhaps the Doctor isn’t the only one who went beyond 13 regenerations, the Master might have as well. Or perhaps Missy’s time was simply up.

This ties into the next episode, because if something happens to Missy (as it looks like is going to), and she has no regenerations left, is it bye-bye for the Master? Can Moffat write off a character as iconic as the Master without any pushback? It wouldn’t be the first time they found a way for the character to come back, so I wouldn’t be too upset or think that the Master is never coming back.

Contradictions

No one wanted to execute the Doctor!

When 11 decided to spend his life at Christmas and help the people (The Time of the Doctor), no one came for him. It seems that the Time Lords leave people alone as long as they’re not bothering anyone too bad. Maybe because the Doctor was helping people, they left him alone. Also, there was the mainframe preventing people from getting through. Perhaps whoever is in charge of these “executions” is lax about it.

Who ARE these people?

What exactly were we seeing? Were they Time Lords? If so, they didn’t seem to know who the Doctor was. They dressed a bit like what we’re used to seeing, but it can’t have been Time Lords, as Gallifrey is locked in a pocket universe, completely shut after the Doctor saved them.

Those scenes in Extremis left a lot of questions. Will any of these questions be answered in the next episode? Or are we way past that?

What do you think of the Master’s “execution”? Does it give us any hints of what may happen?
