When Daenerys met Missandei in season 3, she was a slave to the cruel Kraznys mo Nakloz, who used her knowledge of world languages to converse with potential buyers for his Unsullied soldiers. Daenerys agreed to buy several of those soldiers, and accepted Missandei as a gift with purchase. Daenerys freed Missandei shortly thereafter, along with all the Unsullied fighters. Missandei has been one of Daenerys’ most loyal followers ever since.
Intelligent and gentle, Missandei serves as a translator for Daenerys just as she did for Kraznys, only now she does it as a free woman. During her time by Daenerys’ side, she’s started a romantic relationship with the Unsullied leader Grey Worm. Despite the fact that Grey Worm is a eunuch, the romance seems to be going well. She also developed a working relationship with Tyrion Lannister when Daenerys was away from Meereen.

Status
Missandei was last seen standing beside her queen as they sailed towards Westeros. While Daenerys probably won’t need Missandei’s skills as a translator anymore — pretty much everyone speaks the Common Tongue in Westeros — the Dragon Queen has come to rely on Missandei for her counsel and good sense. Expect her to support Daenerys to the bitter end.
