Peter Capaldi filmed his last scenes as the Twelfth Doctor on set today, ending another era for Doctor Who fans. It’s always upsetting, as the end of a Doctor’s time on the show gets closer. With Capaldi, it’s somehow even more heartbreaking. His final two episodes all had goodbyes, yet so many of us aren’t ready to say goodbye to our Doctor yet.
We’ve seen the twelfth Doctor from beginning to end, we’ve followed his triumphs, his falls and we ran with him on every adventure. Many fans consider Peter Capaldi to be one of the best, if not the best actor to play the Doctor.
When it was announced that Capaldi would be following Matt Smith, many fans were confused. The New Era had stuck to younger actors, ones that girls would be attracted to, and could have a love interest. While it was made fun of in the show, the Doctor did have younger faces in the New Era than he ever had in the Classic.
Then Peter Capaldi came on. Known around Britain for playing Malcolm Tucker, a character known for his swearing, people were wary of him as the Doctor. Younger fans of the show didn’t like that their young Doctor had turned older. To be honest, everything was against Capaldi in the beginning.
How Capaldi surprised us all
Then we saw his first episode Deep Breath, and there was no doubt that he was going to be a fantastic Doctor. Since then we’ve followed every adventure with the help of his outstanding acting. Capaldi being a fan of the show helped much too. When he talks about how the Doctor should be, he’s speaking from his heart.
There was a lot riding against Capaldi in the beginning. But he broke through every one of our doubts. Now we’re here, on his last day of filming, wondering how the hell we got here. Three years passed too quickly. Our Scottish Doctor is on his way out, soon to be replaced.

But we’ll never forget our Doctor Disco, his sonic sunglasses, electric guitar, and beautiful accent.
Thank you, Peter Capaldi, for being our twelfth Doctor. Thank you for bringing your talent and love for the show into a character you were born to play. Many rewatches of your era are in store for us, the fans who will miss you most of all.
