Podrick Payne

History

Podrick Payne is a minor member of House Payne, a noble family sworn to the Lannisters. Like his current master, Brienne of Tarth, Podrick is most comfortable when serving someone he believes in. In seasons 2 through 4, that someone was Tyrion Lannister. Although Podrick once saved Tyrion’s life on the battlefield, his duties mostly consisted of running errands and pouring wine. Nevertheless, the two men trusted and respected one another, and Pod left Tyrion’s side only reluctantly after Tyrion was put on trial for the murder of Joffrey Baratheon in season 4.

Since then, Podrick has been serving Brienne of Tarth, who has been teaching him how to fight. Although their relationship got off to a rocky start, they have also formed a close bond. By the time they saved Sansa Stark from Ramsay Bolton’s soldiers in season 6, they were a well-oiled fighting team.

Status

Podrick serves Brienne of Tarth, and Brienne of Tarth serves Sansa Stark. Therefore, Podrick is effectively working for Sansa, and will probably do whatever she commands going forward. However, Podrick is also close to Tyrion Lannister, who is currently heading back for Westeros. If Podrick is asked to choose between Brienne and Tyrion, he may have a dilemma.
