Tourism Ireland debuts enormous Game of Thrones tapestry to celebrate season 7

Last year, Tourism Ireland impressed Game of Thrones fans everywhere with its Door of Thrones campaign, wherein it constructed a number of elaborately carved doors, each of them based off a different episode from season 6, and had them installed in different bars across the country. The door below is modeled after…well, “The Door,” aka the one where Hodor dies.

That project was ambitious. But this year, Tourism Ireland has something even more elaborate up its sleeve. It’s unveiled “a giant, 77-metre long, Bayeux-style tapestry,” where each panel contains multiple scenes from all 60 episodes of the show — there are 160 scenes in all.

The tapestry incorporates precious metals like gold and silver, but also contains “materials from the Game of Thrones show.” It contains over 250,000 threads placed by hand.

The tapestry will be displayed in the Ulster Museum in Belfast, Northern Ireland, which will be open to the public from Saturday 22^nd July, 2017.

As you can see above, this tapestry is almost too awesome to be borne. Imagine all 160 scenes laid out in front of you, each of them lovingly recreated in detail. I fear I’d try to tear off a chunk and use it as a blanket for the rest of my life.

The tapestry isn’t complete. Tourism Ireland will be adding scenes from season 7 as it goes on, and we’ll be bringing you inside looks all year! By the time the whole thing is finished, it may well be the coolest piece of Game of Thrones memorabilia in the world.
