“Stormborn” the second episode of Game of Thrones’ seventh season, airs tonight. After a premiere concerned mostly with setting the table (give or take Arya murdering the f*** out of the Frey family), will “Stormborn” kick off the renewed war for the Iron Throne in earnest. We’ll find out in just a few hours.
For your edification, here’s info and where and when and what to watch for:
- Start Time: July 23, 2017, 9 p.m. EST
- TV Info: HBO
- Episode: Season 7, Episode 2, “Stormborn”
- Writers: Bryan Cogman
- Director: Mark Mylod
- Run time: 59 minutes
- Live Stream: Stream 1 – Stream 2
Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss wrote the premiere episode, but have passed the baton to “The Laws of Gods and Men” writer Bryan Cogman for season 7’s sophomore outing. Mark Mylod, who’s been directing for the show since season 5, is behind the camera. Here’s HBO’s official synopsis:
"Deanerys (Emilia Clarke) receives an unexpected visitor. Jon (Kit Harington) faces a revolt. Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) plans the conquest of Westeros."
Regarding the “revolt” Jon faces, it could come from one of several fronts. Is Littlefinger stirring up trouble? Is Sansa taking her disagreements with Jon’s decisions to the next level? Let’s see what the trailer reveals.
Mostly it reveals that Cersei isn’t a fan of Daenerys (duh) and that Yara Greyjoy wants Dany to invade King’s Landing while the getting is good. But will Dany listen? You hold the fate of a kingdom in your hands, Khaleesi. Mind you don’t drop it.
Also, someone pushes Littlefinger against a wall (hah!) and Arya encounters a wolf (ooh). Both of these images are full of possibilities. I didn’t mind seeing Daenerys and Varys in the same shot, either. Truly, everybody’s coming together.
As for Daenerys’ “unexpected visitor,” the trailer for Episodes 2 and 3 (“Stormborn” and “The Queen’s Justice”) shed some light on that. Watch below.
It should be an eventful couple of hours.
