BBC
You know what Doctor Who (and BBC)? I’m angry about something. And it’s not the thirteenth Doctor, it’s not the Christmas special, it’s before all of this happened.
I’m not happy with how you left Nardole in the lurch. Now, I know Nardole originally was a small part, not a proper companion. But guess what? Matt Lucas showed his amazing acting ability and became part of the team, both on and off screen.
Let me calm down before someone actually sends this to the BBC and thinks I’m crazy.
I understand why the BBC might have improvised Nardole’s ending. No one could have expected his growth so much during the season, writing it. We know he originally was a gift(?) from River, and then the plan was to pop in and out as a tad of comic relief at the end of the episode.
But through his own acting, and the writers’ own penning (because remember, they obviously film way before we see it, so our reaction means nothing!), Nardole became part of the team. One companion quickly became two, and the Twelfth Doctor had a team with him.
During The Doctor Falls, everything was as it should be. Nardole was helping out, and preventing come ons from Hazran (still probably the best thing to happen in Doctor Who history), and then…
Did he get left by the Doctor?
I truly don’t understand this ending. First of all, the Doctor
BBC
didn’t quite save everyone, just bought them some time. (Which as he said in this speech, is very hard, and I appreciate what he said) If the Doctor had given Nardole a choice and he chose to stay with the farm and the kids, I wouldn’t be writing this. He’d go out a hero, but he’d be choosing to go out.
Instead, the Doctor says, I need you to stay. And of course, Nardole listens. But no one ever talks about anyone coming back. Will Bill come back and save him and he’ll go off with Heather? Will the Doctor help him right before regeneration?
I’m not putting this as a ‘forgotten storyline’ because there’s still a chance that it could be fixed. I just need a passing statement. Have Bill mention it. Have the Doctor quickly save him before Jenna Coleman’s cameo.
Just please, BBC, do something. I’m so happy about having Bill back, but I hate the idea of leaving Nardole on his own.
