Tourism Ireland adds scenes from “Stormborn” to its Game of Thrones Tapestry

If you’re unaware, Tourism Ireland is currently raising awareness for Game of Thrones season 7 in the coolest way possible: by weaving well over one hundred scenes from the show into an enormous, 77-metre-long, Bayeux-style tapestry, resulting in a glorious pieces of artwork that look like this…

…and this…

…and this.

As you can see, this project is dangerously awesome, and may cause heart palpitations in fans who get too close. If you want to take the risk, the whole thing is currently on display at the Ulster Museum in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

And Tourism Ireland isn’t done. It’s adding panels every week based on the newest episode. Here’s the full panel for “Dragonstone,” the season 7 premiere, from Arya’s sit-down with the Ed Sheeran battalion on the left to Dany’s arrival on Dragonstone on the right. Click on the image to see a blown-up version, because it really deserves to be studied up close.

Tourism Ireland has put together a panel for “Stormborn,” as well. Check out this time-lapse video of the their inveterate loom-smiths weaving up a storm:

Again, I am awash in awesome. Nymeria looks particularly fearsome, but I love the flatness of all the images. There’s some elemental (and medieval) about them that just fits this show so well.

We’ll be brining you more updates on the Game of Thrones Tapestry as the season goes on! And you can explore the tapestry in more detail on Tourism Ireland’s website.
