Is no Doctor Who until late 2018 that bad? Or will it give the naysayers time to think and maybe tune in after all?

If you wanted time away from Doctor Who, you’ve got it. It won’t be until late 2018, probably Autumn, that we see Jodie Whittaker officially the Doctor. Is this time good, bad, or does it even matter?

Well, for any Whovian that was hoping for another spring season, this is bad news. However, many people blame the season and what the show was pitted against for the lower ratings of the season. Even though the ratings don’t take in other ways for viewers to watch the show, including iTunes and Amazon Prime, just two of the ways to buy and watch. Another Spring season would also have another long gap before the Christmas episode.

More from Winter is Coming

For those who aren’t happy about the casting, this also may be a good thing. It’s possible for those to look around and come around. Or at the very least, try one episode. A year away from the show and without the news will give much of the drama that’s kicked up in the fandom a chance to calm down.

Even though Steven Moffat claims that there is only 20% backlash from the Whittaker announcement, perhaps that number will get lower as people have time to think. Another Spring season may feel rushed for people who are still getting used to the idea.

Right now though, this isn’t too surprising. It always looked like late 2018 season considering all the changes that take place. Especially with the fact that there hasn’t been a companion chosen.

Who will it be?

Right now Kris Marshall allegedly holds the top spot, but is that only because he was the top contender for the Doctor? With a female at the helm, I’m not sure anyone knows what to do about the companion. Some fans want a male, some a female, and some want to see how Whittaker does on her own for the first episodes.

No matter when it airs, Chibnall has said he has a five-year plan. That leads us into 2022, and it seems like he’s ahead of everyone else. I say let’s relax and try to let everything calm down before we worry about the next season.
