Are you interested in getting to know Jodie Whittaker before she becomes the Doctor, but don’t know how? We here at Doctor Who Watch are always here to help. Even if you’re not sure of the idea, watching her in other programs may help get you ready and perhaps change your opinion of her as an actress.

And if it doesn’t, that’s okay too! These are at least three things to watch to finish up your summer and give you a nice day (or days) of relaxing and watching good programs. We’ll be watching various shows with Whittaker to get ready for her to take on the role as The Doctor in 2018.

The Assets:

Available on: Netflix

Netflix has a show starring Whittaker called The Assets. According to IMDB, it’s a TV mini-series Thriller, also starring Paul Rhys and Harriet Walter. The show surrounds Sandy Grimes (Whittaker), who is trying to save Soviet Intelligence from a mole in her office. The show is based on a true story in 1985 of the real life pursuit of Aldric Aimes.

Grimes is also leading a double life as a CIA agent and a mother and wife.

Venus

Available on: Amazon Prime for $3

As we talked about in one of our first posts about Whittaker, this is the movie that launched her name and put her on the map. It focuses on Peter O’Toole’s character, an ageing actor, who is attracted to his friend’s grand-niece, Jessie (Whittaker). This movie earned an Academy Award nomination for Peter O’Toole, and gave Jodie Whittaker British Independent Film and Satellite Award nominations as well.

Broadchurch

Available on Netflix

Why wouldn’t you want to watch Broadchurch to get ready for Doctor Who? Despite the fact that it’s two different genres, it will give you a feel for Whittaker’s ability to act.  She plays the role of a grieving mother, angry friend, and other arrays of emotions as she loses her son. Broadchurch definitely shows Whittaker’s acting abilities and you can also see how Chibnall runs a show to get ready for his era of Doctor Who!
