Free Chat: Game of Thrones Episode 705, “Eastwatch”
By Dan Selcke
Welcome to the Free Chat for “Eastwatch,” the fifth episode of Game of Thrones season 7. The end is already in sight, and it’s the worst.
But it’s not here yet. First, we get to enjoy “Eastwatch,” a full-bodied episode of the show. Last week’s “The Spoils of War,” spectacular though it was, was on the short side. The new one runs a healthy 59 minutes. Here’s the nuts and bolts of it:
- Start Time: August 13, 2017, 9 p.m. EST
- TV Info: HBO
- Episode: Season 7, Episode 5, “Eastwatch”
- Director: Matt Shakman
- Run time: 59 minutes
- Live Stream: Stream 1 – Stream 2 – Stream 3
Matt Shakman directed the nutso battle scene from last week. How will he follow that up in what looks like a quieter episode?
Although even a quiet Game of Thrones episode is going to be plenty extra. The trailer hints at some major events on the horizon:
So we’ve got the fallout from the Loot Train Attack, with Dany flexing her muscles in front of the Lannister survivors and then Jon Snow while Tyrion worries she’s going over the edge. Cersei, predictably, is staying implacable even in the face of overwhelming odds. Stupid or nobly defiant? You decide.
The most interesting part of the trailer is when it pivots to the North. We’ve been focusing a lot on the battle for the Iron Throne in the south, but let’s not forget that there’s another ruler at the head of an army of zombies to the north. Time to give him some attention.
HBO has not released an official synopsis for “Eastwatch.” It has released a mess of photos, though. Check ’em out:

My personal favorite is Cersei sitting on the side of her bed — very painterly.
