Game of Thrones Screencap Breakdown: “Eastwatch”
By Corey Smith
Jon looks regal on the cliffs of Dragonstone as the Mother of Dragons returns.
Drogon seems interested in Jon.
And when a dragon is interested in you, this is what you see.
Jon looks terrified, but removes his glove and proceeds to pet Drogon with the dirtiest hand we’ve ever seen.
Look at those fiery eyes. These are emotional dragon close-ups.
Dany is clearly shocked at Drogon’s reaction to Jon, and the King in the North’s stock climbs even higher.
Drogon leaps into the air to join his brothers. He’s probably eager to tell them what Lannisters taste like.
Also, not for the first time: wow, special effects.
It’s eyeliner Dothraki guy, who’s here to tell Dany she has a visitor. Notice how he’s standing right in front of the new guy…
It’s Jorah Mormont! This moment hit me in the feelings. Also, note the Dothrakie to Jorah’s left, who appears to be wearing a sword. Is that the same Dothraki who was examining the sword earlier?
Jorah is happy to see Dany, but disappointed to find her in the company of yet another handsome fellow.
Back in Winterfell, Bran is warging into a flock of ravens. Note the eyes that switch from black to white:
Creepy.
Some wondrous shots of a snow-covered Winterfell.
All these shots are great, but we enjoyed this one of Eastwatch-by-the-Sea in particular. It’s our first glimpse the Night’s Watch fortress. It’s interesting how it’s positioned on the edge of the cliff like that, and we love how the castle has stairs leading to the top of the Wall instead of the elevator that Castle Black has.
The ravens continue to fly north, searching for something. We’re betting that Jon and crew will traverse some of this terrain next week.
And that would be the army of the dead. We don’t see any giants in the shot. Could there be more than one army?
In the center of the army sit the White Walkers.
The Night King shatters Bran’s flock with a shotgun blast stare.
Bran’s eager to send ravens warning everyone of the undead army. He shows more emotion than we’ve seen from him all season.
