Video: Go inside “Beyond the Wall” with the Game of Thrones cast and crew
“Beyond the Wall” is on the books, and as always, showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss, along with some of the cast, showed up after the fact to give us a peek behind the curtain with the Inside the Episode videos.
First up, Benioff and Weiss talk about Arya’s bag full of severed faces, the fight on the frozen lake, Dany’s dramatic rescue, Benjen’s reappearance, Jon bending the knee, and the Night King raising Viserion from the dead.
It’s interesting that Benioff and Weiss name Uncle Benjen as “Coldhands,” a name lifted from the books.
Moving on, cast members Kit Harington (Jon Snow), Iain Glen (Jorah Mormont), Kristofer Hivju (Tormund), Rory McCann (The Hound), Joe Dempsie (Gendry), and Paul Kaye (Thoros) discuss their various bromances.
So Tormund likes the Hound because he’s mean and crazy. We’re sure that comes together somehow.
Next, we’ve got a 13-minute documentary about the fight on the frozen lake, complete with fun shots of the crew filming against green screens.
Apparently, this sequence was so convincing that Dan Weiss was fooled into thinking that Tormund was going to die when the wights pulled him toward the hole in the ice. Also, it’s fun to hear that Benioff and Weiss have been trying to write the Zombie Polar Bear into the show for four seasons now.
Finally, we have the scene of the week. Grab your tissues and prepare to have your heart ripped out of your chest as the Night King kills Viserion.
You will be avenged, Viserion…after you’ve been killed again.
