Welcome to another episode of Take the Black, Winter is Coming’s Game of Thrones podcast. This week, our panel discusses anything and everything about “Beyond the Wall,” the latest Game of Thrones episode.
While our panel largely agrees that “Beyond the Wall” was a sloppy episode filled with convenient filler and plot holes, strangely enough, we all enjoyed it. Our topics include:
- We debate the value of the various conversations Jon and company had amongst themselves north of the Wall. We all loved the Hound and Tormund’s conversation because, well, the Hound and Tormund.
- We’re all over the Arya-Sansa drama at Winterfell.
- We all agree that Dany is not turning into the Mad Queen. Her discussion with Tyrion was a highlight.
- How did that one wight — let’s call him Larry — survive when the others fell to pieces once that White Walker was killed?
- Larry is a loudmouth asshole. He knows it, the Night King knows it, and Jon’s group knows it.
- We break down that insane battle on the frozen lake and all its implications for the story. In between, we discuss Gendry’s super-fast run back to Eastwatch-by-the-Sea, ravens who use wormhole technology to travel, the Night King’s ice missiles, Viserion’s death and resurrection, and where the f*ck did those chains came from.
As usual, Take the Black leans heavily on the NSFW side (beware of F-bombs). You’ve been warned.
Don’t forget: Take the Black is now on iTunes! Please subscribe, comment, and download from there if you can. And now, Take the Black is on Blog Talk Radio, so try us there, as well!

What did you think of “Beyond the Wall?” Was it too messy of an episode to rank as one of the best penultimate episodes of the series? Let’s discuss in the comments below. Valar Morghulis, y’all.
