Game of Thrones season 7 is over, and the cast members are ready to reflect on the past, contemplate the present, and guess at the future. HBO gathered a bunch of their thoughts on the Making Game of Thrones blog. Let’s take a look:
What would happen if Arya and the Hound reunited?
The Hound found out that Arya Stark was alive and well in “The Dragon an the Wolf,” and the news seemed to please him. If those two met again, would there be any bad blood? Maisie Williams (Arya) doesn’t think so:
"I don’t think there’s any hard feelings anymore,. What Arya experienced in Braavos took a far worse toll on her. The feelings she had about the Hound were very immature, and I feel like she’s grown up since then. If they met again, she’d hopefully just be an effective killer with him, rather than against him."
There were a lot of reunions in season 7, but there are still a few that need to happen before I’m satisfied. For me, Arya and the Hound is at the top of the list.
Theon’s next phase
Theon had an emotional encounter with Jon Snow in “The Dragon and the Wolf,” and one that seems to get him back on track following his abandonment of his sister Yara in “Stormborn.”
“It brings Theon back to the man he once was, and makes him realize who he is now, how much time has passed, and how have both changed,” actor Alfie Allen said of the conversation. “Things are very different. Theon’s definitely been humbled, to say the least. I would say going after Yara is an easy decision for him to make; and one that he wants to use to rectify his position in the world.”
Standing in his way is Euron Greyjoy, Theon’s uncle. As Euron, actor Pilou Asbæk made a pretty big splash this year (geddit?), but says that he even he didn’t see the plot twist involving Euron going to Essos to fetch the Golden Comapny coming.
"The way I acted it is, ‘It’s gone. I’m out. See you guys. This is the most scary stuff I’ve ever seen, and I’m going back to my island, and you should go back to yours.’ I f**king meant it. Euron is blinded by Cersei."
One question is: if Theon is going after Yara and thinks Euron is returning to the Iron Islands, will he head in the wrong direction? Thoughts for season 8.
Being Bran
Bran Stark may be able to see all, but actor Isaac Hempstead Wright isn’t so lucky — smart though he surely is, he didn’t see the twist involving Littlefinger’s death coming:
"We didn’t get those last scripts until shortly before we started filming, so I remember reading it and thinking, ‘Oh my god! Littlefinger’s done it again. He’s managed to pit the sisters against each other,” shares Bran actor Isaac Hempstead Wright. “I was really expecting we’d lose one of the Starks, which would have been devastating. It was quite a nice twist, that the underdogs manage to pull it together. It was such a nice way of rounding it off with all three of them working together: Bran doing the research, Arya doing the dirty work and Sansa presiding over it all. You’ve literally got your judge, jury and executioner all right there. It was a proper kind of explosive return for the Starks I think."
Wouldn’t Bran be more like a witness? Not important.
Meanwhile, Jon Bradley (Sam Tarly) talked about how many similarities Sam and Bran share, “mainly in that they’re dismissed physically…There are thousands of men who can shoot an arrow and swing an axe, but Sam knows he and Bran possess skills nobody else will ever get. That makes this such an interesting partnership.”
And at the moment, the first order of business for this partnership is to tell Jon Snow about his true origins, would could get awkward. Still, Bradley says it’s vital that Jon knows. “Of all of these hundred of characters we’ve seen, Jon is the link. They know it’s absolutely going to change everything for everybody. That’s how powerful it is. They have to introduce this knowledge as soon as possible.”
Other stuff
And what of Bronn, you ask? What will he do now that Jaime has left him in King’s Landing with Cersei? “Personally, my fantasy is for Bronn to end up fighting alongside Tyrion and the others, against the White Walkers,” actor Jerome Flynn said. “But I’ve got a feeling Bronn might not be so keen. He might think, ‘Okay, you guys go sort that out. It’s time for some early retirement now.’” We can see it going either way.
HBO also chats briefly with Richard Dormer (Beric Dondarrion) about pretending to be terrified of a wight dragon. “Everything is green screened, so it was just me and on top of a platform looking over an empty studio: We had to imagine a dragon coming, the walls shaking and all that. It was good fun.”
