Around the end of season 10, speculation began to form that Doctor Who might be changing its traditional filming location from Cardiff in Wales, to Manchester, England.
While this sounds surprising, as the New Series has always been made in Cardiff, Wales. The speculation that Chris Chibnall would bring a new filming location has always been in the cards. It had been said that he wanted to tighten the filming location from fans, to make up for mishaps that have happened in the past few years.
This came to light especially during a location filming mishap caused drama in the fandom. On Peter Capaldi’s last day, many people were going to travel to say goodbye to the actor during his filming. They relied on the twitter group, #DWSR, to tell them when and where he would be. It turned out that the DWSR either lied about the date so fewer people could see the actor or got it wrong.
Chibnall has promised something to stop this group and other fans who seem to stalk the filming locations.
Could that be a whole new film location itself?
Rumors for Manchester:
This past weekend, a rumor popped up that the Doctor Who Experience, an incredibly popular tourist attraction for Doctor Who fans, might be moving to Manchester, England. This connects with the previous rumors about the set team moving there as well.
According to the site, lovinmanchester,
"For all those Whovians out there who fancy a change of career, the BBC are looking for brand new members to join their crew for Doctor Who, including extras for a special location in our city."
Whether the “special location” mentioned is a one-time-only deal, or a secret filming location is unknown.
Staying in Cardiff?
However, don’t give up on the idea of Doctor Who leaving Cardiff completely. It looks like any writing and production work could stay in the city, as the BBC put up a want ad for a screenplay writer for the show.
Calling all Whovians, swap your sonic screwdriver for a pen and paper. The BBC are looking to hire a new Script Editor for Doctor Who. Disclaimer: TARDIS not included. https://lnkd.in/gJx9WEU
