Valar Morghulis: Who’s most likely to die in the season 8 premiere?

Valar morghulis: All men (and women) must die. But when?

Welcome to Valar Morghulis, a weekly column about death and destruction in the wide world of Westeros. Each week, we’ll try to predict how likely every character on Game of Thrones is to breathe their last in the upcoming episode. We’ll also review what we got right, as well as what we got horribly wrong, last time.

And in this case, we will attempt to predict the odds each character will die in the as-yet unfilmed season 8 premiere. Because we have the kind of confidence Jaime Lannister had before he lost his hand. But first, let’s take a look at what we predicted correctly for the season 7 finale, “The Dragon and the Wolf.”

"2. Littlefinger: 75%. Littlefinger is a master of deception, but might have finally made a misstep in sowing strife between the Stark sisters. And if Bran ever reboots, Littlefinger could be in real danger."

This one seemed a bit obvious to everyone, except poor Littlefinger. As far as death scenes go, Littlefigner’s was quite good. We might even miss the snake.

Baelish had a good run, and was responsible for more than his fair share of deaths, and for that, this column thanks him.

"11. Tormund Giantsbane: 50%. Tormund barely survived the expedition north of the Wall, and now will likely remain at Eastwatch. Where the Night King is headed. On his new ice dragon."

Time will tell if we got this right, but if we did, we were spot on. It would be shame for a character as rich as Tormund to die falling from the top of the Wall, but there is some irony there that we’re guessing Tormund would appreciate.

"20. Beric Dondarrion: 20%. Beric appeared to be fine after Thoros’, but this is a guy who’s died almost 10 times. The next time it happens, Thoros won’t be around to resurrect him. Also, he’s staying near the Wall, where no one is safe."

We can’t claim to care much if Beric perished at the Wall as well, but like Tormund, we will have to wait before finding out for sure. For now, we’re counting him as dead. Like dead dead.

Moving on to next year’s (or 2019’s) season 8 premiere.

Without any concrete information about season 8, this could be tricky. A compressed season means more deaths per episode, and season premieres always have a few, so let’s get started.
