Today on Doctober Who, we talk about the cute aliens that even got their own fanbase, the Adipose!

Not all aliens are mean. Not all aliens even know exactly what’s going on! They’re just doing what they always do! They’re kind of chillin’, listening to the reverb from a necklace or something in their genetic code, and have no idea that what they’re doing is bad!

There are many cute aliens throughout Doctor Who, we all know of my love for the emoji-bot. If you’re looking for something even cuter than that, all you have to do is look to the first episode of season four.

In the episode “Partners in Crime”, we meet the true antagonist of the episode, Matron Cofelia who is using the Earth to breed the adipose. Ironically, adipose actually means “fat” in science, so the fact that they’re made out of fat is fitting!

Normally the cute aliens are the ones that are oxymoronic. They’re cute, but they also kill, or do something else that anyone who doesn’t watch Doctor Who would deem “wrong”. But the Adipose don’t do anything but sit there, waving their tiny arms!

Okay, so you’re waving at fat, but at least the fat is cute, right?

These aliens became so cute, that they actually got famous enough to have merchandise! For a while, an Adipose plush was available on ThinkGeek. It’s not available anymore, and let’s just say I’m regretting my choice not to buy it.

The reason that these aliens became so popular is because they were literally nothing but the picture of innocence. They showed that sometimes people get caught up in other people’s schemes – even perfectly innocent pieces of fat. Am I taking this to a too serious level? Maybe.

But if the adipose had some kind of laser eyes or any evil about them, they would be branded “just another alien antagonist” along with the Matron. Instead, these are cute aliens that you kind of wanted. Admit it.

How do you feel about the Adipose? What are other cute aliens on Doctor Who that we forgot about?
