Season 8 filming: Yet more photos from a gigantic mystery set

facebooktwitterreddit

With season 8 filming now underway, photos have begun to emerge of a new mystery set being constructed at the Titanic Quarter in Belfast, Northern Ireland. We’ve previously seen trebuchets and what appears to be a large section of a castle wall. Now, thanks to Wiki of Thrones, we have even more images, including a new feature to the mystery set.

As you can see, whatever set this ends up being, it is massive. The two sections of the set do not appear to connect at present, although a gate might be added later.

In this shot, note the small structure on the far right. Part of the set, or just a storage building?

Above, you can see a tower structure unconnected to the walls. Is this part of a new set as well?

Many of the towers we’ve seen on the show so far have been cylindrical, whereas this one is more blocky. Highgarden does have square towers though, as does Winterfell. The latter aren’t quite as straight and narrow, however, starting out with a wider base before tapering off, as seen below:

The tower in the set photo does look eerily similar to the tower just to the left of the godswood, however. Even the window appears the same. Winterfell does have its own set at Moneyglass, but filming one sequence here is not out of the question. Either way, practical sets imply a major action sequence for season 8.

The set could of course be a castle we’ve yet to see, as well. If only the production would do us a favor and hang a banner from the walls of this mystery castle, it would make things a lot easier. Until then, head to Wiki of Thrones for even more photos.
