Season 8 Filming: Watch a trebuchet test at Titanic Studios

Filming on Game of Thrones season 8 is underway, and lately there’s been a lot of attention paid to an enormous set being constructed in the Titanic Quarter in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Construction is ongoing:

Fans have also snagged photos of a large trebuchet in the area. Now, @a_red_priestess has video of the siege weapon in action:

If there was ever any doubt that the trebuchet was meant for Game of Thrones season 8, this should settle it.

Although we don’t yet know what particular Westerosi landmark is being constructed in the lot, we can make some guesses. It’s probably not Winterfell, since that castle has a separate set at Moneyglass, Northern Ireland — the crew has been hard at work there, too. The photos below, which features what look like dragon head props in the area, may offer a clue:

If those are dragon heads, they may belong on Dragonstone, which is bedecked with dragon statuary from top to bottom. Could the mystery set be Dragonstone? Is Cersei, newly in command of the Golden Company, going to use that trebuchet to besiege the place?

Who knows? Even if those are dragon head props, they could be there for any reason. It’s a TV set, after all; props pile up. All we know for sure is that the trebuchet is tested and ready for action.
