Poll results! What was the best set, special effect, and death scene from Game of Thrones season 7?

Over the past several weeks, we here at Winter is Coming have been debating the highs and lows of Game of Thrones season 7 in a series of Small Council posts, complete with polls for y’all. We’re not finished — a lot happened, people — but we thought it’d be nice to check in and see how the poll results are progressing.

First, let’s take on sets. Season 7 featured several new ones. Which ones tickled fans’ fancies?

Dragonstone 2.0 took the clear lead here, thanks to the tireless efforts of the producers to make us forget that we’d been there before. “Dragonstone gets my vote because they pulled off making something new look ancient, and it still looked like it could be Stannis’ Dragonstone,” said Bandit77. A shame we didn’t get to see Stannis enjoy the place, though…insofar as he ever enjoyed anything.

But Dragonstone wasn’t the only contender. AinoKyllikki made a passionate case for Cersei’s map room in the Red Keep:

"The reason I prefer the map room is the craftsmanship and artistry its creation must have required. Although the other sets are impeccably designed, they have been made of easily pliable materials produced mainly by a machine and then disguised as some other material and they have also in some cases been modified digitally. So my vote is really a vote for all those folks who crawled on the floor with a paintbrush in their hand. No need for faking anything. That map is the real deal."

Indeed. And I think a lot of us want it on our kitchen floors.

This poll was a little harder to put together than normal, since Game of Thrones occasionally uses special effects in such a way that viewers don’t even know they’re special. Also we forgot stuff, as Tahoe Mike pointed out:

"The wight goes after Cersei. That was like when magicians do “Close up” magic. It wasn’t the biggest trick in the show, but it was so in your/her face. It blended so well with all the live actors in the scene, and it made me jump in my seat."

Ida summarized the results effectively: if it had dragons, it was a contender.

"I had to think about it, because the scenes were all so good, I really can’t say I have a favorite. The Loot Train attack was great and what one would realistically think could happen. So I narrowed it down to anything with the Dragons, like Jon and Drogon, Drogon carrying Dany to the Dragonpit and making it crumble – but I have to say the Night King taking down the Wall was what I think the best – the cold blue tones, and even thinking about the detail of Viserion’s damaged wings, which reminded me of a butterfly or moth wings."

Those little guys have come a long way.

And Littlefinger edges out the Queen of Thorns! It was, as singlemaltgirl pointed out, a long time coming:

"For sheer yes! had to be Baelish. I’ve been waiting for his comeuppance and so glad it happened in front of the men of the vale. With bran quoting his own words to him. At the hands of the Starks (who have suffered dearly b/c of his machinations). And it was sansa who passed the sentence and arya who pulled his dagger that started it all."

Lady Olenna, Viserion, and all the Frey guys killed at the top of the season also racked up solid vote counts. And let’s pour 12 out for dear Biff.
