We knew that following the Christmas Special, there would be many changes behind the scenes on Doctor Who. One though has fans particularly upset.
A new era normally comes with big changes. We’ve already seen some goodbyes following Steven Moffat and Capaldi’s exit, but it was recently announced that we would see a sadder goodbye. Or should we say hear?
According to Cultbox, Murray Gold, who has done the orchestrations for every episode of Doctor Who since it returned to television, will be leaving after the Christmas Special. While this is a disappointment, it can’t be seen as too much of a surprise. Fans have been waiting for a CD of his orchestrations for season nine and ten, with nothing coming out.
A rumor began to surface that it was possible that Murray Gold wasn’t coming back, but no one took it seriously until this weekend when more sources came to light.
As much as fans hope this isn’t true, there are too many patterns. The fact that there hasn’t been any orchestrations from him since season eight, despite the overall desire for a season nine orchestrations. Since season nine has so many amazing episodes with incredible work from the composer, including the iconic Heaven Sent and Hell Bent, many fans are hoping that we’ll get a few songs from him before he leaves the show.
Is this bad for Doctor Who?
The only reason that it doesn’t seem like this could mean something bad for Doctor Who is the fact that everything is up in the air. However, no matter the reason, or the fact that everything seems to be changing, it still is an unfortunate change. I don’t believe anyone saw this coming, and hopefully, whomever Chibnall or the BBC finds for the orchestrations of season eleven, he or she is on par with the man who has been with Doctor Who since 2005.
