Doctor Who: Who is the real enemy in the Christmas Special?

We know that the Mondasian Cybermen will return at Christmas on Doctor Who, but are they the real enemy?

There is definitely going to be a focus on the Cybermen this Christmas, but can we deny that there might be a larger villain at play? What if the twelfth Doctor’s final villain is no one other than himself?

We know that the Doctor doesn’t want to regenerate, which could definitely bring problems to this regeneration. It will definitely mean an emotional finale is on the way, as we’ve never really had a Doctor, at least in New Who, that was against his regeneration. Even the iconic I don’t want to go line said by the Tenth Doctor didn’t carry as much disdain of going away as I expect we’re going to see.

We’ve already seen the Doctor try to fight his regeneration all throughout The Doctor Falls, to the point where it looked like agony! How will the Doctor be able to be everything his former self, and the World War I Veteran needs him to be if he’s busy trying not to turn into Jodie Whittaker?

Does this mean something more?

No, I don’t mean anything against Jodie Whittaker. I only wonder if there’s some kind of hidden meaning to this. Is it a sign of the huge change of the Chibnall era to come? Did Moffat put his personal feelings into the Christmas episode?

We know that the episode was a last minute decision when Chibnall said he wouldn’t be making a Christmas episode. So Moffat pretty much had free reign on this episode, especially with the change in regeneration. (The Doctor was supposed to regenerate in The Doctor Falls, not waiting for Christmas, like normal)

No matter what secret meaning this has, the Doctor is very much looking at being his own enemy this Christmas. How do you save your past self and your future when you can’t accept it?
