Last week, the ever-reliable Watchers on the Wall reported on a new casting notice for Game of Thrones season 8. (Potential spoiler in 3…2…1…) For its final season, the show is looking for a “sad-eyed young girl” aged 9-11 to play “one excellent scene with a leading cast member.” Now if that isn’t just fascinating.
Who will this young girl play? That was the leading topic on the latest episode of WiC Live, a Game of Thrones chat show we stream on Facebook every Wednesday at 4:00 p.m., because we’re just that obsessed. Kayla Knierim and I break down the possibilities before moving on to more pressing topics, like the fact that Jason Momoa is everywhere at once and that there’s a movie theater in London that’s going to marathon every single episode of the show back to back to back to back to back to back.
Would that I were a Londoner. Watch us ramble:
After we work through the news, Josh Hill comes on for a new-ish segment we’re calling A Song of Dan and Josh. Here’s the gimmick: I’ve read the Song of Ice and Fire books multiple times. I like them. Josh has seen Game of Thrones, but never read the books. Each week, we read a few chapters of the novels, and discuss how they compare to the show, how they work on their own, and generally luxuriate in this wonderful world George R.R. Martin has created for us.
We’re still pretty early in our read-through, still on A Game of Thrones, the first book in the series. On this episode, we cover Catelyn II, wherein Catelyn receives a cryptic message from her sister; Arya I, wherein Arya has some ‘splaining to do; and Bran II, aka the one where Jaime pushes Bran out a window.
If only that was the worst thing that happened to the Starks over the course of this story…
