The Game of Thrones season 7 home boxset comes out next Tuesday, December 12, in both DVD and Blu-ray formats. To celebrate, HBO is doing something a lot of Game of Thrones fans are sure to appreciate: showing an episode, plus extras, on the big screen.

Game of Thrones is among the most cinematic shows ever produced, so it’s right at home on a movie screen. And the episode HBO plans to show — season 7’s “The Spoils of War” — should look particularly spectacular. The Dothraki engaging the Lannisters in battle, Bronn rushing across the field of fire, Jaime charging at Daenerys…that should be a night to remember. And on top of that, HBO will screen Conquest & Rebellion: An Animated History of the Seven Kingdoms, a 45-minute documentary about the Aegon Targaryen’s invasion of Westeros, narrated by the stars of the show. Here’s a sample narrated by Harry Lloyd (Viserys):

Here’s where and when the screenings are going to happen:

New York City

  • Where: AMC Loews 34th

And how can you attend these events? You can register at this website. But there’s a catch. To gain admittance, you have to bring along a copy of the Game of Thrones season 7 home boxset — DVD or Blu-ray — to prove that you bought one. HBO wants to drive interest in those releases, you see, not that it really needs to.

In each case, the doors will be open three hours before the screening, which will give fans a chance to get their pictures taken sitting on replicas of both the Iron Throne and Daenerys’ Dragonstone throne. Register here!
