John Bradley hints that Sam and Bran will keep working together in season 8
By Corey Smith
Daenerys and Drogon. Bronn and Tyrion. Arya and the Hound. Game of Thrones has featured many a dynamic duo over the years. The season 7 finale may have seen the birth of a new one when the brainy Samwell Tarly arrived in Winterfell and reunited with Bran Stark, the new Three-Eyed Raven. Together, the two of them figured out the truth about Jon Snow’s parentage. Their discovery could have a huge affect on the story, both because it means Jon is a legitimate contender for the Iron Throne and because Jon and Dany will now have to deal with the awkward reality of their incestuous relationship. Speaking to TV Guide, actor John Bradley ruminated on why they work together so well:
"What I think links those two characters is that they’re both characters who are in possession of abilities and skills that nobody else has. Between them, they’re such a formidable team because, okay, they can’t fight between them, they don’t have much physical power between them, but both of their set of skills are so unique. Sam’s penchant for absorbing knowledge and absorbing academia and his wish to apply that for the greater good combined with Bran’s visions and supernatural skills means that between the two of them, it is a real recipe for success."
Will Bran and Sam continue to their working relationship in season 8? Bradley is hopeful. “Don’t write them off as a partnership because between them, they can use their own and each others’ skills to really shake the place up a bit as we go forward.”
Sam is a mentally disciplined academic, Bran an all-seeing magical being. Their skills could definitely come in handy when dealing with the threat of White Walkers and their army of the dead. Who knows what weak points these two might espy? And let’s remember that these two have actually known each for a while, ever since Sam helped Bran go under the Wall at the end of season 3. When season 8 finally gets here, let’s hope they become best friends.
