Kit Harington named the worst dressed man alive, and other cast member news

Finally, someone said it.

After years of having to watch Game of Thrones star Kit Harington walk around in a series of garish, outdated outfits, the brave folks at GQ have said what everyone was thinking. Striking a blow for the little guy, they have boldly named Harington the Worst Dressed Man alive in their January 2018 issue.

I mean, just look at some of the trash this guy puts on his body:

I may vomit.

How could he have left the house looking like that?

DEAR GOD MAKE IT STOP!

One upside: now that we’ve acknowledged how much we’ve been hurt by Harington’s fashion sense, the healing can begin.

Obviously, I’m joking. I have absolutely no idea what about Harington’s sartorial choices qualify him to be the worst dressed anything. But hey, I’m not a fashion tastemaker like the geniuses over at GQ.

In other Game of Thrones cast member news, Tom Hopper, who had a brief but memorable turn as Dickon Tarly in season 7, is on his way up. How do we know? Because Variety reports that he’s been added to the cast of Netflix’s Umbrella Academy, a show about a dysfunctional family of superheroes who have to band together despite their differences to solve the mystery of their father’s death. He’s in a superhero thing. His career is made.

Hopper will play Luther. I’m just guessing, but I’m betting his power will be super strength.

In other kinda-sorta superhero news, Emilia Clarke did some voiceover work for Thunderbirds Are Go, a reboot of a goofy series from the ’60s about the exploits of International Rescue, a group that uses advanced rescue craft to save people from disasters. Clarke plays Doyle, an oil rig worker. Here’s a taste:

Thunderbirds Are Go airs on CITV in the UK.

Another Game of Thrones star who’s appearing in an iconic franchise: Gwendoline Christie (Brienne), who will soon be up on the big screen Star Wars: The Last Jedi as the villainous Captain Phasma. Below, she talks about the physical training she underwent for the movie. Christie comes in around 0:58.

In awards news, Gemma Whelan (Yara Greyjoy) won an award! Specifically, she received an award from Women in Film & TV UK for her contributions to, well…film and TV in the UK.

Speaking to Digital Spy at the awards ceremony, Whelan reflected on the “controversy” that flared up when Ed Sheeran made a brief appearance on the show, and had a bright idea for another potential Game of Thrones guest star: Lady Gaga. “She would be up for it I think,” Whelan said. “She’s amazing – I’ve just been watching her Netflix documentary. And she’s a really good horse rider so maybe… She’s tough. I wouldn’t mess with Lady Gaga, and I wouldn’t mess with Yara, so they’d be a match.”

Finally, Ben Crompton (Eddison “Dolorous Edd” Tollett) co-devised and narrated a filmed version of balletLORENT’s Rumpelstiltskin, a full performance of which was recorded at Northern Stage in Newcastle. The whole thing will be available to watch soon. In the meantime, check out the trailer:

Costumes for the ballet were created by Michele Clapton, the longtime costume designer on Game of Thrones. So this is chock-full of Thrones connections.

Like all of balletLORENT’s Brothers Grimm productions, Rumpelstiltskin uses dancers of all ages. The core company of eight in this production range in age from 22-53 years old, and the ensemble also includes a cast of local children aged 4-9 and older people over 68. It’s a very inclusive project, and you can see the whole thing online this Friday, December 8.

UPDATE: And here’s the whole thing! Enjoy.

Let’s hope Crompton fights White Walkers as well as he narrates all-ages ballets. Pray for Edd.
