Steven Moffat has given the last seven years to Doctor Who. With two Doctors, four companions, and six seasons, he has made a lasting impact on the show. Now that the Doctor Who Christmas Special had its official press screening, Moffat’s time is officially over.

At the screening, the producer of the last seven years gave a small speech to the people at the showing.

Warning: This is likely to make anyone with a heart (or two) cry.

"“Now I’m leaving I’ll say it – it is actually the greatest television show ever made,’” Moffat said Wednesday night to applause from fans and press gathered for a special screening of the upcoming special Christmas episode. “It’s not ‘The Wire,’ it’s not ‘I Claudius’ or the ‘The Office,’ it’s not even ‘Blue Planet.’ It is ‘Doctor Who.’”“People change their view of the world and what they are capable of because of a silly show about a man who travels around in time and space in a police box. So never mind the reviews, never mind the ratings or any of that,” he said. “Count the scientists, the musicians, the scholars, the writers, the directors, the actors who became what they are because of this show….I do not even know what is in second place, but without doubt, and by that most important measure, ‘Doctor Who’ is the greatest television series ever made.”"

Many people who are fans of the show don’t like change. So it’s natural that in the upcoming months leading to season eleven, we’ll see a change in fandom. People are still steadfastly against a female Doctor. People are against the casting of the companions and the change in writing. Everything is changing the Doctor Who world.

What won’t change is what Steven Moffat said about Doctor Who. The show has inspired many people to live their dream. The biggest case in point is the actors who have watched Doctor Who and gone on to play the character. It’s as much synonymous with Britain as tea. Without this show, we wouldn’t have this role model for children. It encompasses the best in everything to give us a great hour of television.
