Liam Cunningham (Davos) on season 8: I know everything now

Bran Stark, aka the Three-Eyed Raven, is the best-informed person on Game of Thrones. But offscreen, pretty much the entire cast has read the scripts for the final six episodes of Game of Thrones. And that gives them power. “I know everything,” star Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth) told the Independent. I’ve read the last six episodes. It makes me want to go in to Paddy Powers and put a few quid on.”

That sounds more like something Tyrion would do, not Davos, but far be it for us to put limits on how Cunningham uses his information. HBO, on the other hand

With great power comes great responsibility, a lesson Cunningham has been slow to learn when it comes to Game of Thrones. “I used to leave the scripts lying around the house and my daughter would go mad at me screaming, ‘Put them away’.” With all the security measures in place for season 8, that would never happen now. But however casual he was about the scripts in the past, Cunningham has never feared that he was in danger of spilling the show’s secrets. The code of silence is, apparently, too complete. “[I]t’s like being a member of the masons.”

As Game of Thrones barrels towards the finish line, many cast members are excited to tackle the next leg of their careers. Cunningham isn’t necessarily among them.

"It happens all the time when you are working as an actor, even jobs you love, they are always taken off you like your children, they just disappear. It’s going to be a massive shame. My accountant’s not happy. I’ll be back down at hatch 13 on Gardener Street collecting me dole after this."

Cunningham isn’t being totally serious, of course, as Thrones has led to a significant spike in the demand for the Irish actor. “There is stuff coming in now because my stock has gone up slightly, so I think the financiers have become a bit more confident about backing stuff that I am involved in,” he said. “Still it just means there’s a larger proportion of crap coming in. I’m waiting for decent stuff.”

Here’s hoping the decent stuff comes in soon. In the meantime, we’ll enjoy Ser Davos for as long as we can.
