Get a closer look at a finished tower on this enormous season 8 set

The Game of Thrones production is building an enormous set on a lot outside Titantic Studios in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Bigger than any set the show has built before, it looks like it’s getting rigged for some major action in season 8, although it’s still not quite ready for prime time. It’s coming along, though, and Watchers on the Wall has some new shots of a finished portion.
As it happens, we know what location the set will stand in for, and while it’s not a big surprise, we’ll save that minor SPOILER for below the cut.
The set is standing in for King’s Landing. That’s pretty much all it could be, considering its size. The production has built a series of makeshift building to stand in for a swath of Westeros’ capital. Rising above many of the smaller structures is one central tower. By the look of it, it’s now been completed:
Seeing what the tower used to look like can help us understand how far it, and this set, has come. It started out as a block of bare wood:
Then it was painted white:
And now they’ve made it look like it’s made of stone:
It unquestionably looks like part of King’s Landing now. We can expect the other structures to get the same treatment before the production starts rolling in earnest.
