Peter Dinklage on reading the final episodes of Game of Thrones: “It was heartbreaking.”

Game of Thrones is ending. Season 8 is currently filming, and after that we will be left with a giant hole in our hearts. Just like his pragmatic character, Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister) sees the positives and negatives of the show coming to an end, as he explained to Bustle:

"Yeah, I’m looking forward to the future. You gotta move on. I’ve done a lot of projects that have been on the back burner for 10 years now, and I want to focus on them once Thrones is over. It’s gonna be sad when [Thrones] is over. I really do love everyone I work with on that show."

That echoes what several other cast members have said on the matter, including Kit Harington (Jon Snow) and Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark).

Dinklage also chatted with Mashable about his upcoming Super Bowl ad with Morgan Freeman, which is actually a thing that’s happening. Between talking about that (he lip syncs to Busta Rhymes rap from “Look At Me Now” — watch below and be amazed), Dinklage described the experience of reading the final episodes for the first time. “It was heartbreaking,” he said, “and the end of an era.”

Heartbreaking because it’s over? Or heartbreaking because the Night King turns everyone into ice zombies? Hopefully the former.

Naturally, Dinklage remained tight-lipped about the ending, saying that the stars don’t even reveal plot details to family members. “We live in a world of spoilers and we keep it quiet. We’re really good at this point.” If fans are going to uncover spoilers, they’ll have to do it on their own. Lord knows they’re passionate enough, as Dinklage noted with admiration:

"Fans are a great resource for material. They know more about it than I do almost. But it’s fun to see them speculate, especially early on when we’re just getting started. It’s great, it means everybody’s really engaged in the show."

It’s much more fun than speculating what killed Jack on This Is Us. Stupid crock pot.
